We raised service dogs for years and the regional offices of Canine Companions for Independence are always in need of all kinds of dog supplies. Nylabones are great because most dogs love them!
CCI is a non-profit so every penny is needed to train and house the dogs once they return for puppy college! At CCI, I’d say most of the service dogs are interested in Nylabones or LOVE Nylabones! So we occasionally buy a pack and send them.
They’re great for use when you get a puppy. They’ve just come from their mom, so obviously they’re going to have at least some anxiety. No matter how much they love your company, there will be times when a dog just needs to be a dog!
With our service dogs in training, we used them as a treat when kenneling but anytime you have a dog who has even minor anxiety, they’ll chew. If you provide appropriate toys for chewing right from the start, you’ll be able to gently guide them to the appropriate things to chew. If they don’t take to the toys you provide, smear a little peanut butter or spray cheese on the toy and they’ll get the message and chew on the toys you provide instead of shoes or other inappropriate items.
If you have a dog who’s just a chewer, these are amazing. They’re flavored in some very unusual flavors! Nothing I’d like personally but flavors dogs love, like LIVER… YUM, right!? LOL
Nylabones last until they get sharp, which they will as the dog chews. But that can be anything from months to years depending on how much of a chewer your dog happens to be. We’ve used these for years and we highly recommend Nylabones!

I have purchased these a few times. They hold up well. I have a very very aggressive chewer that is a 90lb bloodhound that chews on this at least 30-60 minutes a day. These last about a month before I need to replace them. Which is great for us. If you have a dog that only chews on their toys every so often this will last you such a long time.

I have a 100lbs Great Pyrenees that started destroying soft toys when he turned 2. They wouldn’t last 5 min! I found this strong chewers to have worked. He’s almost 7 now and loves chewing on these occasionally. They are hard so I monitor when he plays with them because I don’t want him to hurt his gums. These last long. I usually replace them every month. Do recommend!

These Nylabone chews truly help to keep the tartar off my ShihTzuΒs teeth. I have used them since she was a puppy. She is now almost 3 years old. Her teeth are very white and we have been given the thumbs up from our veterinarian. Anything you can do to keep your dog from having anesthesia to get the charter removed from their teeth is a blessing. She really likes the flavoring, especially of the cherry and popcorn. She has small teeth, but these have held up from her daily chewing of them. I hope Amazon keeps them and look forward to the different flavors offered by Nylabone.

Our Border Collie loves these Nylabone’s. I started him as a puppy with the puppy starter set and have continued to keep buying them as he has grown into an adult dog. They might seem a little expensive; however, they are well worth it. It not only keeps tarter from building up on their teeth, but it also keeps them from getting bored and chewing things you don’t want them to chew. Years ago, our English Setter puppy chewed up everything – a new leather couch, my bedroom dresser – even doorknobs, just to name a few!!! They have sizes and flavors for every size dog. Make sure to get the right size. When I ordered these, I went through Garrett’s toy box and threw out all the old ones that I felt were too small for him. I would never forgive myself if he choked on one. It’s really important to start them as a puppy so they become used to them right away.

These stand up to my German shepherd’s aggressive chewing, but they don’t hold much interest for her. If she chews on something I’d rather she didn’t, I offer her one of these toys. She takes it politely, drops it, and walks away. I don’t blame her. Hunks of smooth plastic wouldn’t really do it for me, either. When she does occasionally chew on them, they show very little denting, though, so these seem pretty safe.

My dog actually ate my 2 Lazy Boy chairs. She not only chewed on them, she was only 5 months old and when I came down the hallway, she had dragged both into the middle of the floor and was gnawing on both, tearing off the material and literally eating it! I had a positive experience in sharing this Nyla chicken bone with my family’s Cavalier Spaniel. She recently turned 6, and this pack of 3 felt like a good way to celebrate another year of life for her. Since we all love spending time with her, making her nice and cleaning her hair, teeth, and eyes, this kind of purchase comes easily, and I’ve been appreciating her response to the little toys and exchanges we have together (we humans can share so many moments with dogs, why not savor each of them?). I wonder if her first bone had lost its flavor quickly, as she had been gnawing the chicken bone for at least 20 minutes and then basically left it alone on the floor. I think ours is a dog that prefers play and intrigue (fun and achievements), to the mere joy of eating. I can see this in the way she appreciates my acknowledgment of her presence even when I’m greeting her with a bowl of yogurt or rice on my lap or over the table with a meal, socially or otherwise. My dog is what I would consider a super chewer despite being such a small fella (about 25 pounds), and he absolutely destroys any fabric toys he has within minutes. I have been giving him various textures and sizes of Nyla bones since his adult teeth came in and the shredding worsened. Unfortunately, these don’t last more than a week or two with him. He chews a lot, and these bones become sharp daggers lying on my floor. The blue textured one has held up a bit longer, likely because he seems to prefer the ease of the smooth chews, but I doubt it’ll last much longer once I have to throw away the smooth ones. Another issue I have had with these and others from this brand is that once the ends are destroyed the middle can be completely unscathed but it had to be thrown out. Buying him anything smaller would be a choking hazard, and buying anything bigger makes it seem like a waste. If you have a dog that loves chewing and shredding don’t be shocked if they run through these fast. They’re not too expensive which is the plus side because it’s not too much of a setback when he destroys them and I have to buy another.

The photos of the bones are after 5 days of use. My dogsΒs favorite thing is to chew. I love the quality and durability of these. They are not meant to be indestructible. They have no smell. TheyΒre not heavy per se, but they could hurt someone if your dog flings them around. I usually replace these/toss them once the bone shape begins to disappear or if they become sharp/pointy anywhere.
For size, my dogΒs muzzle is 2.5 inches from the center of his eyes to his nose. Always make sure your dog has the right size toys to avoid choking!
For teething, I am unsure if these are recommended. I would always ask your vet before using them. For my dog, who is young but not a puppy, these work and he has 0 dental issues.

I love these bones and so does my dog. The reason that I gave them a 4 star is because when he chews on them the edges get sharp. Since they get sharp, they can hurt my dogs mouth. He loves to chew on them and they last about 6 months each before I have to throw them away because of the sharp area. He is very rough on toys so I am sure not all dogs will have this issue. If he would move from the ends to the middle when then ends got sharp I would not have to throw them away but for some reason he only loves the ends. I know that the fact that they are flavored is one reason he loves them so much. Even with these issues I love them and continue to buy new ones for my dog!
